I have ...Wow; your alliance activities are cursed.

I have similar feelings about meta-gaming. I've purposely distanced myself from sovereignty holding alliances, at least partially because of it. I'm not quite sure how it became such a core and accepted part of EVE Online. Certainly I understand betrayal and turncoats, but the act of planting a spy and acting as a friend to the very people you have planned to betray is just ... how is it fun?

I've become very selective in who I associate with.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2174961188649730147.post-30529371134325502202010-10-11T11:05:02.720+01:002010-10-11T11:05:02.720+01:00A superb short history well presented.

People generally play games seeking some kind of positive experience, but the meta-gaming culture of EVE seems to have revealed a surprising amount of schadenfreude. I'm not sure what it says of people who take pleasure from being so openly deceitful.

I love that EVE provides a unique environment where these sort of observations can be made. I am disappointed but unsurprised by what it says of human nature and the moral choices players make.

-----

Black Claw, I did not intend for the article to convey any bitterness.

I was disappointed by the initial lack of activity and cool reception when we joined Art of War. I was frustrated at our ejection from the Alliance as I was enjoying the excitement of being 'at war' and was looking forward to playing a part.

However I totally understand that you could not predict what our contribution would involve and you made decisions that were in the best interests of your alliance.

I understood the decision, but that didn't mean I had to like it. Just when it was getting interesting we were removed from the theatre of war, which was bloody frustrating. It was ironic that the only way that we could have played any further part was by accepting Doxana's invitation to fight for the other side, which would have made it appear that we were the spies all along.

If there is any bitterness on my part, it is at being made a fool of and misled on voice comms and my subsequent endorsement of Dead Ratt, but we live and learn.

I am pleased to hear that the war went well for you. Well played, I'd be interested to hear more.Mat Westhorpehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08553980835026556794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2174961188649730147.post-83405342152250059062010-10-10T21:56:13.373+01:002010-10-10T21:56:13.373+01:00You seem bitter about how security measures were e...You seem bitter about how security measures were enacted due to war, which unfortunately included you. There was nothing personal in my decision, so I'm confused as to why you should be bitter about it. Since you had just joined us days before a war was declared against us, and you had been involved with and even promoted and recommended a strongly-suspected spy, it was a necessity to involve you in such security measures.

My statement about you being welcome to join us once the war ends is still true. The 10-week war that they declared has now been retracted by the enemy and will end in less than a day. Depriving the enemy of their spies worked well for us. The war lasted only 2 weeks, and I believe was due to our efforts at striking some significant blows against the enemy, and depriving them of their easy kills.

You are welcome to rejoin the alliance now, if you want to, or not. It's up to you.Black Clawhttp://blackclawtravels.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2174961188649730147.post-18322513706391992752010-10-10T19:20:22.144+01:002010-10-10T19:20:22.144+01:00"When did betrayal become a form of entertain..."When did betrayal become a form of entertainment?"

I feel I have to provide the obligatory "Welcome to EvE" line. You may not support meta-gaming, but it is fundamental to certain types of play in this game, e.g. Alliances. Through the use of agents, the foe was able to slice youselves and other corps from the intended target, reducing the numbers it would have to face. That is a successful sabotage operation.

You were looking for PvP, they were looking to win a war. Your goals differed from theirs.Latrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06788342809089685009noreply@blogger.com
